Eldoris (Doris) Sinclair (Lieder), interviewed by Rebecca Mavencamp, September 27th 2013
Doris Lieder was born in Hanover, Minnesota to parents who owned the River Inn. Her family moved to Rockford when she was five. They opened a grocery store that served the local market and many of the guests at the resorts on Lake Sarah. She married Robert Sinclair and lived out of the area until 1972 when she returned to care for her parents.
Information on rural life and entertainment, particularly as it pertained to her childhood memories of working at her parent’s grocery store and the neighborhood bars. Descriptions of the Rockford-Greenfield business district; childhood recreation; the Lake Sarah resorts and dance hall; the bridge closing over the Crow River; entertaining the Army Corps of Engineers; rerouting of highway 55; the impact of declining tourism on her family’s business.
